Reading Books, by Mrs Fitzsimons

Date: 3rd Nov 2015 @ 11:41pm

Thank you for all the fantastic reading you are doing at home! It's been great to hear all of your comments about how your child is getting on with their reading books and library books!

Just a  reminder that your child has a set day that their reading books will get changed. Their reading book will not be changed until it has been signed off and at least one comment has been written in their reading journals. It is also very important that your child brings their reading book to school everyday so that we can read with them if there is any spare time.

If you are finding that your child is becoming very familiar with their reading book, you could ask them to try and put the words in another sentence or write them out for spelling and handwriting practice. And of course, read your own books or library books in addition!

Year 1 Receive A Royal Reply!, by Mrs Whelan

Date: 3rd Nov 2015 @ 3:58pm

Year 1 had a very exciting delivery to class today! We received an envelope with the royal coat of arms on it that had come from Buckingham Palace! The Year 1 children received a very special letter addressed to them, thanking them for the cards which they sent to the Queen to congratulate her on being the longest reigning monarch. She enjoyed looking at and reading them very much! We are now going to find somewhere special to display our royal reply in class!

Big Talk!, by Mrs Fitzsimons

Date: 19th Oct 2015 @ 11:05pm

We do not set homework as such in Reception, as we believe that it is important that families have plenty of time after school to be together, to read together and also to enjoy each other’s company! Each week we will send home, as part of the newsletter, a picture, photo or image for you to look at with your child. These photos have been sourced from Google Images and Pinterest. They are interesting and unusual images chosen to encourage, develop and increase children’s vocabulary and listening skills.

Ask your child questions about the picture – What do you think is happening in the picture? Who? Why? Where? How? When? Tell them your own opinions about the picture and then ask for their opinions and how it makes them feel.

We hope you enjoy this week’s image - a fantastic Autumn picture by J. Petra. Can you think of 2 sentences to say about this picture?

Wow Moments!, by Mrs Fitzsimons

Date: 19th Oct 2015 @ 11:03pm

We would love to hear more about the exciting, new or clever things your child gets up to at home! We call these moments “Wow Moments” - when your child does something that makes you feel proud and really shows their developing learning and understanding.

These moments are totally individual to your child, and can be as simple as “Tom put his socks on all by himself”, “Carla rode her bike without any stabilisers”, “Emily read number 57 at the bus stop” or “Charlie wrote his full name without any help”. They can be quotes from your child that really impressed you, e.g. “Gemma said, ‘Mum, it must be Autumn because those leaves are turning browny-yellow’”” or just a simple description of something lovely that your child has done.

We would love to share and celebrate these moments with you, so please find attached a page of “Wow” stars. When you would like to share a “Wow Moment” with us, just fill in one of these stars and send it into school with your child. Please feel free to e-mail us with your child’s “Wow Moments” too!

FANTASTIC NEWS!!!

Our boy's football team have made in through to the FINALS of the Manchester Primary Football League!! What an amazing achievement!!!

This evening, they knocked out St Catherine's in a nailbiting match! Mason started the scoring with a wonder goal (it should have been 4-0 by this time). Soon after, St Catherine's won a goal back bringing the final score to 1-1. The draw meant a penalty shoot out was next! The boys, parents and spectators were all feeling angsious, but with the 'Slaniator' in goal, who needed to be nervous! He saved every single penalty that was taken, seeing us safetly into the finals! I am so proud of the boys as will be the whole school! Keep an eye out for the final dates soon!!

Year 4 Swimming - 30/6/15, by Mrs Whelan

Date: 23rd Jun 2015 @ 8:36pm

Next week's swimming lesson sounds sure to be an exciting one! Children have been asked to bring a pair of pyjamas to wear for their lesson! These should preferably be long trousers and a top, but shorts are suitable too. No onesies or nighties please! Children still need to bring along their usual swimming kit (to wear underneath) and towel, and we also ask that you bring a large carrier bag or bin bag so that the children can put their wet things into it for the rest of the day. I can't wait for what sounds like it will be a super fun lesson!
