Nursery 2019 - 2020
Welcome to our Nursery Class page!
“Tell me, and I will forget. Show me, and I may remember. Involve me, and I will understand." Confucius
The nursery teacher is Miss Caldwell. The nursery learning support assistant is Mrs Markendale.
Our lunchtime organisers are Mrs Williams, Mrs Scargill.
We are so excited to welcome the nursery children into Sacred Heart School and are so impressed with how quickly they have settled into school life!
In our Nursery, we learn through play!
For the first few weeks, we will be getting to know each Nursery child and finding out what they can already do.
We will be finding out about ourselves and each other. We will also be learning about the nursery rules and routines and finding out about the different learning areas.
During the year, we plan every few weeks around a quality text:
Autumn 1 - All About Faces (by La Zoo)
Autumn 2 - Monkey & Me (by Emily Gravett), Busy Monkeys (by John Schindel), Day Monkey, Night Monkey (by Julia Donaldson & Lucy Richards), Dear Zoo (by Rod Campbell)
Spring 1 - How To Lose A Lemur (by Fran Heston-Gannon), Pete the Cat (Kimberly and James Dean)
Spring 2 - Jasper's Beanstalk (by Nick Butterworth & Mick Inkpen), The Odd Egg (Emily Gravett)
Summer 1 - The Hungry Caterpillar (by Eric Carle), Time For Bed, Fred (by Yasmeen Ismail), Dogs (by Emily Gravett)
Summer 2 - The Something (by Rebecca Cobb), Walters Wonderful Web (Tim Hopgood)
Our Religion topics are: God's Wonderful World, God's Family, Getting to Know Jesus, Sorrow and Joy, New Life and The Church.
The children will take part in a Pupil Led Worship each week.
After half term the children will take part in daily phonics lessons and daily maths lessons.
We have daily snack times too where the children will be able to choose a piece of fruit and a carton of milk or water.
The children will be taking part in a weekly sports session every Monday afternoon with our Sports Teacher, Mr Read.
Regular school uniform will be worn for this activity.
Please see the Curriculum page for more detailed information about the curriculum Nursery children will follow.
Please note that the nursery door will be opened in the mornings at 8:45am until 8:55am for you to drop your child off.
The door will be opened for hometime at 3:15pm for you to collect your child.
A member of the nursery team will always be available at these times if you have any questions.
We look forward to working with you and your children and an exciting year ahead! :-)
Thank you for your support,
