Reading Books:

Please ensure you have signed the reading record located in your child's planner so I am aware your child has read their book. Your child should change their book as often as possible.

Year 4 – The Bible

“The Scriptures are the living Word of God, written under the guidance of the

Holy Spirit received and faithfully handed on within the living Tradition and teaching of the Church.”

Religious Education Curriculum Directory

The children will learn that the Bible is a story of God’s love and concern for us. They will learn that the Bible is a living book through which God speaks to us and tells us about himself. They will learn that the Bible is one story told

through many different books and they will learn about Moses, David and Jonah as well as learning how to find a Bible reference.

The children will have the chance to:

• explore how the Bible helps us to pray and experience how God speaks to us in the Bible

• participate in a liturgy and experience a guided meditation on a text from the Bible

At home

You could help your children by:

• reading some of the stories the children have covered in class

• go online to and complete the interactive activities.

We will focus on the following objectives in the Autumn term.

1 Count backwards through zero to include negative numbers

2 Recognise the place value of each digit in a four-digit number

3 Round any number to the nearest 10, 100 or 1000

4 Recall multiplication and division facts for multiplication tables up to 12 × 12

5 Use place value, known and derived facts to multiply and divide mentally, including: multiplying by 0 and 1; dividing by 1; multiplying together three numbers

6 Recognise and use factor pairs and commutativity in mental calculations

Children have daily spelling and handwriting practise and guided reading sessions.

In English lessons children will be taught using the reading and writing journey where they read and comprehend and then plan their own texts and write, edit and read aloud based on a class text.

The texts we will be working on in Autumn are:

  • The day the crayons came home, Oliver Jeffers

  • Journey, Aaron Becker

  • The Great Paper Caper, Oliver Jeffers

Other Subjects

  • In Humanities we will be working on the topic 'Where in the World are we?'
