Recently, the children have been taking part in the Tram Tracks music project with Mrs Reilly and The Bridgewater Hall. They have been writing a song about the tram and produced a great track. Some more details have been published on the Bridgewater Hall website!

Reading books are changed on a Tuesday and a Thursday. In Year 5 children should have 2 books. One from the reading scheme and one from the free choice box. Children can change their book from the free choice box whenever they have finished. 

Curriculum:

In English in Year 5 we are looking at books by Shaun Tan including 'The Lost Thing' and 'The Viewer'. 

In Maths we will focus on percentages and geometry. The children can continue to practice their number fluency using mathletics! 

In RE we will be looking at Life in the Risen Jesus and the importance of prayer throughout our lives. 

In our Topic work we will be looking at the Amazon! In geography we will be looking at the following: 

  • understand geographical similarities and differences through the study of human and physical geography of a region of the United Kingdom, a region in a European country, and a region within North or South America (i.e. the Amazon)

  • describe and understand key aspects of:
    § physical geography, including: climate zones, biomes and vegetation belts, rivers, mountains, volcanoes and earthquakes, and the water cycle
    § human geography, including: types of settlement and land use, economic activity including trade links, and the distribution of natural resources including energy, food, minerals and water

In science: 

  • describe the differences in the life cycles of a mammal, an amphibian, an insect and a bird.

  • describe the life processes of reproduction in some plants and animals. 

For our D.T. lessons we will be focusing on using textiles and patterns.
