Year 5 2017 - 2018

Miss O'Dea

Welcome to Year Five's class page

This year, Year 5 will be taught by Ms O'Dea and Mrs Cahill.

PE Days:

Day Activity Kit
Thursday Gymnastics or dance Indoor
Friday P.E. with City in the Community Outdoor

Curriculum:

Reading books are changed when the children bring them in. The children can bring their book in as often as they would like it to be changed. Please remember to sign their planner

In English in Year 5 we are looking at A Midsummer Night's Dream. The children will be performing this at The Contact Theatre on Oxford Road in November! We are writing our own TV reports currently and will be producing a writing over a range of genres.

In Maths we will focus on place value and rounding to start with. Children's knowledge of place value is crucial for all aspects of Maths. We will be moving onto:
- Interpreting negative numbers and counting through zero
- Roman Numerals
- Addition and subtraction

In RE we will be looking at Creation and our school Mission Statement.

In our Humanities work we are currently looking at the topic of Ancient Greece including:
- Gods and Goddesses
- Important battles throughout the Ancient Greek Empire
- The Olympics
- Social and cultural life at the time

In science we are focussing on materials and their properties, including:

- Reversible and irreversible changes
- Chemical changes that can occur
- Conduction of heat and electricity

Homework

The children will recieve one piece of maths homework and one piece of English homework per week. This is alongside their spellings and timestables. Remember Mathletics is a great tool to help with the children's maths skills.
There will be weekly and bi-weekly timestables and spelling quizzes for the children at school. Any help at home with these would be much appreciated.

Thank you for your support,

Ms. O'Dea
