Mission Together Visit 8th Feb 2018, by Mrs Crook

Date: 8th Feb 2018 @ 2:05pm

This morning, Sacred Heart children gave a very warm welcome to Mary Deardon from Mission Together. Mary came in to collect the money that school raised through various fundraising activities in support of AJ, a little boy in Sri Lanka.

Representatives from our Mini Vinnies presented Mary with a cheque for £400.00. Thank you to all our families who supported this.

Mary was then able to tell us that the money raised will be used to provide 400 Health Packs to children out in Sri Lanka. Previously, our fundraising had contributed to the building of a new toilet block and kitchen facilities, serving children over two times the number in Sacred Heart. What an achievement!

Mary finished her visit with a challenge. She has asked that we say the Mission Together prayer 10,000. If you would like to help us reach our goal the prayer is below:

We Pray,

May all children

In the world

Share love,

Share friendship

And live in the peace of God's love.

Now and forever,

Amen

How Can You Help Your Nursery Child With Their Learning?, by Mrs Fitzsimons

Date: 20th Oct 2016 @ 10:39pm

This is a fantastic page from the 'What To Expect, When' publication, with some excellent ideas about how parents can help and support their children during this age at home.

What To Expect, When - Advice for Parents, by Mrs Fitzsimons

Date: 19th Oct 2015 @ 11:15pm

In our Foundation Stage classes at Sacred Heart, we get to know your child's knowledge and understanding through setting up play-based activities, adult-led focused activities and through observations of your child accessing and demonstrating their learning in our continuous provision (the resources and activities your child chooses themselves in the classroom).

Here is a very useful document from 4Children that outlines the developmental stages and age-related expectations that your child will be experiencing at each age.

Meeting Gobi - the little dog with the huge heart, by Miss Barnes

Date: 12th Jul 2017 @ 2:40pm

Meeting Gobi:

Today Miss Barnes and four year 3 pupils (Summer Peters, Oscar, Felicity and Alec) went to the Madeleine Lindley Book Centre to have lunch with Leon and Gobi.  We had a delicious lunch (see the pictures) and we bought copies of the book to read in September. We cannot wait for the film to come out! Gobi is already a star in our eyes!

In 2016, Dion Leonard, an ultramarathon runner, stumbled across a little stray dog while competing in a gruelling 155 mile race across the Gobi Desert. The pup earned the name 'Gobi', as she went step for step with Dion, keeping pace with him for nearly 80 miles. What Gobi lacked in size, she made up for in heart. Dion had always focused on winning, but as he witnessed the incredible determination of this small animal, he felt something inside him change.

Year 2 make seed balls!, by Mr Lavin

Date: 23rd Mar 2017 @ 1:35pm

This week Year 2 had a fab time making our very own Seed balls, which are now drying in a secret location in school (not to be mixed up with Deliciously Ella style Energy Balls!)

Apologies if some of the children got a bit messy but they had a great time mixing all the ingredients and learning about why we are going to grow the seeds in this way rather than just scattering them on the ground.

Take a look at the report below!

What an amazing treat we had last night! A huge 'Well done' to all of our year 5 pupils who transported us to the barren moors of Scotland and told the story of Macbeth through the lyrics of Queen. We were rocked in our seats!
