Year 6 Love Reading

Date: 14th Sep 2016 @ 12:24pm

Year 6 have started their year with a bang! Today we went to visit Madeleine Lindley, The Book Centre in Oldham. The children had the opportunity to browse the latest releases, speak to experts and choose their very own book to keep. We had a wonderful day and found it hard to choose just one book as there were so may amazing titles there.

We hope that year 6 will always remember this special day. Most of the children started reading on the coach home! This was wonderful to see as we are committed to every child leaving Sacred Heart as fluent readers!

Celebrating the life of Mother Teresa

Date: 5th Sep 2016 @ 1:08pm

We had a special assembly today where we found out about Mother Teresa and how she helped the people of Calcutta in India. We were amazed to hear that she had sacrificed her life to help so many people. Isn't it wonderful that she was made a saint yesterday?

As a school we are going to try and follow two of Mother Teresa's most famous quotations as a guide:

  • "Do you want to do something beautiful for God? There is a person who needs you. This is your chance."
  • "Not all of us can do great things. But we can all do small things with great love."

We would like to share two news stories about pupils at Sacred Heart who have already done something beautiful for God.

Evie and Amelie Scott (in years 5 and 3) decided to have their hair cut and donate their plaits to a charity called 'Little Princess Trust' where their hair will be used to make wigs for children.

Katie-Lou Dunne (Year 6) has been creating beautiful artistic drawings for people over the summer. She painted a picture of her cousin's gerbils to give to her whilst in hospital.

We are really proud of all the children here who we know think greatly about others. We hope you enjoy the photographs.

Celebrating 100% attendance

Date: 20th Jul 2016 @ 11:16am

We are so proud of all the pupils who had 100% attendance. A special mention to Pharrell Wimbleton-Ackun in year 2 who missed the trip, but, chose a very exciting book about sharks as his treat. I am sure he will tell you all about sharks if you ask him. Well done everybody!

Sister Ann came into school last week to collect the many, many books you have donated to the needy in Africa. What a fantastic act of Mercy! You will have brightened up the lives of so many. When I say 'many books' I actually mean it - hundreds in fact. You have been so generous as always.

Thank you to the Mini Vinnies who helped to organise and sort out the books - we couldn't have done it without you!

Children have had a great nights sleep and are ready for their day full of adventure! Breakfast next, then off to our morning sessions! They enjoyed a campfire with marshmallows last night too!

We've arrived safely, ready to start our activities! All children happy with their rooms and ready to begin!!

7:45am:

If you enter school through the top door, Mr Lavin will greet you and collect children’s suitcases and store them in the school hall – please ensure that you have attached the luggage label onto the case.

Medical needs:

If your child requires any medicine during our trip please seal this in a clear sandwich bag with a note detailing times and dosage. Please see Miss Buckley and Miss Opdam after dropping off your child’s bag where you will be required to fill in a form giving permission for staff to administer. This does include inhalers.

The forecast for the weather doesn’t look the greatest so please ensure children have suitable clothes for rain and a coat is a must. Children do need to bring a packed lunch with them tomorrow but from then onwards all meals are provided.

The coach is scheduled to depart school at 10:00am if you would like to wave off your child.

Reading Books

Date: 3rd Nov 2015 @ 11:41pm

Thank you for all the fantastic reading you are doing at home! It's been great to hear all of your comments about how your child is getting on with their reading books and library books!

Just a  reminder that your child has a set day that their reading books will get changed. Their reading book will not be changed until it has been signed off and at least one comment has been written in their reading journals. It is also very important that your child brings their reading book to school everyday so that we can read with them if there is any spare time.

If you are finding that your child is becoming very familiar with their reading book, you could ask them to try and put the words in another sentence or write them out for spelling and handwriting practice. And of course, read your own books or library books in addition!

Year 1 Receive A Royal Reply!

Date: 3rd Nov 2015 @ 3:58pm

Year 1 had a very exciting delivery to class today! We received an envelope with the royal coat of arms on it that had come from Buckingham Palace! The Year 1 children received a very special letter addressed to them, thanking them for the cards which they sent to the Queen to congratulate her on being the longest reigning monarch. She enjoyed looking at and reading them very much! We are now going to find somewhere special to display our royal reply in class!
