Sports Funding

What is PE and Sport Premium?

The PE and sport premium is designed to help primary schools improve the quality of the PE and sport activities they offer their pupils. The government are spending over £450 million on this funding over the 3 academic years 2013 to 2014, 2014 to 2015 and 2015 to 2016.Sacred Heart received £8,879 in the academic year 2015-2016.

How will the money be spent?

Schools must spend the funding to improve the quality of the PE and sport activities they offer their pupils, but they are free to choose the best way of using the money.

At Sacred Heart we use the funding to:

  • hire qualified sports coaches to work with teachers
  • provide existing staff with teaching resources to help them teach PE and sport
  • support and involve the less active children by offering a variety of sports activities both within the
  • school day and as extra-curricular activities.
  • take part in sport competitions in order to increase pupils’ participation in school games
  • organise sports activities with other schools and sports clubs.

Sacred Heart has developed a number of sports partnerships within the local community in order to enhance the provision offered to our pupils. Currently the school has programmes with Manchester United Football Club, Timperley Lacrose Club, Lancashire County Cricket Club, Trafford Netball Club, Manchester Running Club and Manchester City in the Community.
